Patient Matters Video Series: Knowledge is Power

In the latest installment of our Patient Matters video series, Daryn Kagan talks with Bill about how the Syn-One Test® alleviated the uncertainty regarding his diagnosis, allowing Bill and his care team to be confident about treatment recommendations.

The first symptom Bill noticed was that his right arm wasn’t swinging freely. Then he noticed that his right leg was dragging. When the symptoms didn’t improve after several months, he decided it was time to see his doctor. A series of initial tests were inconclusive, and Bill was referred to a neurologist.

Although Bill’s neurologist was fairly certain Parkinson’s disease was the correct diagnosis,  Bill’s neurologist wanted to rule out other diseases that resemble Parkinson’s. A differential diagnosis early can ensure patients like Bill don’t start treatment that would ultimately be ineffective. Bill explains, “I’m an unusually slow progressing person with Parkinson’s. And so he wanted to kind of double check to see whether I actually had Parkinson’s or not, or maybe something else that he missed.”

The results confirmed the Parkinson’s diagnosis, allowing Bill and his neurologist to be confident in the treatment plan they’ve chosen. “If you know what you’re dealing with, you can take steps to mitigate it. Like anything, knowledge is power, you know?”

See what Bill has to say about what it was like to get a skin biopsy and why he tells others in the Parkinson’s community that the Syn-One Test is “definitely worthwhile.”
