Dr. Husain-Wilson Describes Syn-One Test® Biopsy Procedure on NeurologyLive
Sameea Husain-Wilson, DO, a neurologist at Marcus Neuroscience Institute, Baptist Health in Boca Raton, Florida, recently appeared in a NeurologyLive video where she gave an overview of the biopsy procedure for the Syn-One Test.
She begins with reviewing the consent forms with patients and making sure they know what to expect from the procedure and how to care for the biopsy sites afterwards. Dr. Husain-Wilson discusses the biopsy kit components and explains how she and her medical assistant work together to collect the biopsy samples and bandage the biopsy sites, which do not require stitches. Biopsy kits may be requested by clinicians at no charge here.
The Syn-One Test requires three small skin samples, collected from the back of the neck, just above the knee, and just above the ankle. The biopsies are placed in individual fixative-containing tubes and sent to CND’s CLIA and CAP accredited laboratory. Test results are available within four weeks and indicate if phosphorylated alpha-synuclein, a pathological hallmark of certain neurodegenerative diseases, is present.
Dr. Husain-Wilson describes how the test results inform her next steps, allowing her to tailor her approach to each patient’s care.
